Safety tips before meeting your match

October 2026 · 6 min read

Online matchmaking has helped countless families find the right partner. But like anything online, it is important to stay alert. Most people are genuine, and a few simple habits will keep you safe from the few who are not.

1. Get to know each other on the platform first

Keep your early conversations on Haldi Kalash. On our site, you can only chat after you have both liked each other, and you can report or block anyone at any time. Share your phone number, home address or workplace only once you feel comfortable and have verified who you are talking to.

2. Verify before you trust

  • Ask for a video call before meeting in person. A genuine person will usually agree.
  • Be careful if someone always has a reason to avoid video calls.
  • Check that what they tell you, such as their job, city and family, stays consistent over time.
  • Encourage a call between the two families early on. It is natural in Indian matchmaking and builds trust on both sides.

3. Never send money

This is the most important rule. Scammers often build a connection first and then ask for money with a believable story. Be very careful if you hear things like:

  • I am stuck at the airport or customs and need money to pay a fee.
  • There is a medical emergency in my family.
  • I have sent you a gift parcel, but you need to pay the customs charge.
  • I know a great investment or crypto opportunity for us.
  • I need help paying for my visa or travel to meet you.

Never share OTPs, bank details, card numbers, or copies of your Aadhaar or PAN card with someone you have met online, no matter how close you feel.

4. When you meet in person

  • Meet in a busy public place, such as a cafe or restaurant, preferably during the day.
  • Tell a family member or friend where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Arrange your own transport to and from the meeting.
  • Keep your phone charged and with you.
  • Consider involving family in the first meeting. It is common, respectful and safer.

5. Trust your instincts

If something feels wrong, it probably is. Watch out for these red flags:

  • Pressure to move very fast or to marry quickly.
  • Stories that change or do not add up.
  • Unwillingness to involve or meet family.
  • Pushing to move the conversation to another app very quickly.
  • Requests for personal or intimate photos.

6. Report and block

On Haldi Kalash, every profile and chat has a Report and Block option. Reports are private and the other person will not know who reported them. Blocking means you will no longer see each other or be able to message.

If you have been cheated or threatened, contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline on 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in. In an emergency, call 112.

Staying safe does not mean being suspicious of everyone. It simply means taking your time, involving your family, and protecting your money and personal details until trust is truly earned.
